It has been half a year since my exchange at the City University of Hong Kong's School of Data Science. This half-year has been a precious experience for me.
In terms of coursework, I mainly studied core courses related to data science such as advanced statistics, machine learning, and convex optimization, and I successfully passed the qualifying examination. These courses not only deepened my understanding of the scientific principles behind big data applications but also provided me with opportunities for group practice. In terms of research, I participated in a smart healthcare-related research project. In this project, I was responsible for processing biological signal data, including respiratory sounds and photoplethysmographic signals, then analyzing the physiological indicators of the subjects and attempting to use them for disease diagnosis. This research not only combined the signal processing methods commonly used in my previous topics but also applied newly learned statistical and machine learning methods for analysis. This project not only trained my research abilities but also allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge trends in wearable devices and the smart healthcare field. Interpersonally, I communicated with classmates and professors from different backgrounds. This diverse environment provided new perspectives and inspiration for my research ideas and directions.
Overall, this half-year exchange experience has greatly promoted my personal and professional development and motivated me to continue striving for excellence in my future research journey.
