The Laboratory Student Yimeng Huang Attended the GLOBECOM 2023

Yimeng Huang attended the GLOBECOM 2023 International Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 3 December to 7 December 2023, and gave a live presentation.

IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) is one of the IEEE Communications Society’s two flagship conferences dedicated to driving innovation in nearly every aspect of communications. Each year, more than 2000 scientific researchers and industry researchers submit proposals for program sessions and attend the conference sharing their works. This conference aims to drive the development of technologies, systems and infrastructures and to provide all users with unprecedentedly cost-effective and efficient global communications services.

At the conference, Yimeng Huang presented her latest work: EEWScatter. This work is based on the booming of the Internet of Things (IoT), focusing on the problem about the large amount of resource consumption and environmental pollution caused by the huge increase of IoT devices. They aims to propose a new green and energy-saving wireless communication scheme. In this paper, an energy-efficient WiFi backscatter communication system, EEWScatter, is proposed to achieve the goal of green IoT. This work for the first time provides a system-wide view of energy efficiency and gives a global system solution. The results show that EEWScatter can save at least half of the energy compared to existing efforts. In addition, the ultra-low-power tag consumes only 1/1000th of the power of an active radio.

During the conference, in addition to sharing own work, she also listened to many cutting-edge industry reports and excellent scientific research results, and talked to outstanding scholars from all over the world. It was an invaluable and rewarding experience that gave her a more comprehensive understanding of the entire field of communications research.
