From December 1 to 4, 2020, Longzhi Yuan participated in the online virtual conference CoNEXT, which is an annual conference organized by ACM to discuss the cutting-edge technologies in the field of networking. The lab presented a paper titled Multiprotocol Backscatter for Personal IoT Sensors at CoNEXT. The work focuses on the problem of how backscatter tags recognize and utilize different types of carriers. Traditional backscatter systems use carrier signals that are fixed types, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, and so on. However, these signals have certain limitations in their distribution in the environment, and the inability to support multiple carriers can significantly affect the backscatter communication opportunities. This work proposes a tag design based on signal envelopment for carrier signal detection, identification and utilization, where the tag can identify multiple types of signals in the environment, and then select relatively richer signals as carriers for backscatter communication, which can enable backscatter tags to obtain more communication opportunities.
During the process of conference, Longzhi Yuan also fully felt the enthusiasm of academic exchanges, the participants actively asked questions, different cultural backgrounds, different research directions of the ideas and opinions of researchers colorful, the scene of the exchange atmosphere is very cordial. Although it was not possible to attend the conference offline for more in-depth and extensive academic exchanges due to the anti-epidemic policy, Longzhi Yuan still found it a fresh and enjoyable experience.
