Maoran Jiang, a student in the UBIoT lab, participated in the CoNEXT2023 in Paris, France from December 5 to 8, 2023. CoNEXT is a major forum for presentations and discussions of novel networking technologies that will shape the future of Internetworking. The laboratory published a long article titled Dances with Blues: Harnessing Multi-Frequency Carriers for Commodity Bluetooth Backscatter at CoNEXT and made a presentation. This work focuses on solving the problem of how Bluetooth backscatter tags utilize multi-frequency Bluetooth carriers. The traditional systems all take carriers with a fixed frequency. However, Bluetooth signals have diverse frequencies due to the hopping mechanism. Therefore, the transmission efficiency of traditional systems is very low in actual environments. We present DanBlue, a commodity Bluetooth backscatter system that can take multi-frequency signals as excitations. Unlike all prior systems, DanBlue leverages ambient Bluetooth signals of various frequencies to backscatter in the standard Bluetooth-hopping way. For the first time, we demonstrate DanBlue can emulate the Bluetooth protocol stack and seamlessly build connectivity with multiple active Bluetooth radios. We believe DanBlue is taking a crucial step forward on fully functioning battery-free Bluetooth.

While participating in the meeting, I also fully felt the enthusiasm of the participants for academic discussion. Participants actively asked questions, and the discussion atmosphere was very lively and cheerful. What impressed me deeply at the conference was the community session. The organizing committee asked the participants for their suggestions and opinions and exchanged ideas on how to expand the conference's influence and promote the dissemination of scientific research results. At this conference, I also met some Chinese students from other European countries, and we shared scientific research and life experiences. During the conference, I also visited some Paris landmarks and famous cultural attractions. After this participation, I have a certain understanding of academic conferences and their important role in communication in academic research. I hope everyone can get a chance to share their work at the conference in the future.
