The First UBIoT Summer Camp was Successfully Hold

In order to fully convey the value concept of the laboratory and establish the correct value orientation, open the window of communication between the laboratory and new students, and provide a platform for new students to conduct scientific research and exploration, the first summer camp activity was held by the Ubiquitous Passive Internet of Things Laboratory. The activity was prepared from May 2022 and officially started in June, with a total of 18 students participating.


Activity overview

The summer camp will be held from June 1, 2022 to August 31, 2022, a total of 3 months, the main content of the activity is scientific research and study, subject discussion, both online and offline. The summer camp is divided into two camps, namely the summer camp for exempt students and the summer camp for new students. The two camps are divided into small classes for training. Each class has a monitor for guidance, a work report is organized every two weeks, and the tutor gives one-to-one guidance, so as to cultivate the habit of scientific research and exercise the thinking of scientific research. The laboratory has prepared a summer camp gift package for campers. Students with excellent performance in the summer camp will also get an additional certificate of honor and a large bonus. Students with excellent performance in the summer camp can directly get the offer of the laboratory.


Activity publicity, selection of monitor, drafting topics

The preparation of the activity began in early May. The preliminary preparation was mainly divided into two aspects: making publicity materials and determining the monitor and the subject. On the one hand, the recruitment preparation team carefully produced propaganda posters, summer camp manuals, presentation PPT and other propaganda materials, which fully reflected the laboratory's open mind, practical style of work, the concept of professional and professional and the students-oriented thought, so that students can fully understand the laboratory and summer camp activities. On the other hand, the laboratory carried out the selection of the monitor and the formulation of the subject. After the students' active application and laboratory selection, 7 monitors were finally determined. Feng Yunyun, Yuan Longzhi and Cao Linxiao were promoted to be the monitors of the summer camp, and Zhou Zhipeng, Xu Zhaoyuan, Qiao Shuang and Yang Yifan were the monitors of the summer camp for freshmen. The subject of each class is drafted by the monitor, and then corrected by the tutor, and the subject content is finally determined, which ensures the feasibility and difficulty of the subject, so that the students can gain something in the learning process.


Camp assessment, class selection

The laboratory held two summer camp lectures on May 15th and May 28th respectively, with more than 30 exempted students and more than 10 freshmen attending. First of all, the tutor introduced the general situation of the laboratory and the activities of the summer camp, and answered questions for the students. The teacher emphasized that the concept of the laboratory is having both virtue and ability, putting morality first, and that we pursue first-class style of study and united collective, and then excellent results. Afterwards, each monitor introduced the subject of each class and introduced the subject content, expected results, planned help and so on in detail, which allowed the students to have a preliminary understanding of the research direction of the laboratory and a certain degree of understanding of the learning content. After the application, interview and assessment of students, a total of 7 exempted students and 11 new students successfully entered the camp. Students chose their favorite topics according to their own interests, and further communicated with the corresponding monitor. Finally, through laboratory coordination and two-way communication, the results of class classification and topic selection were determined.


Regular report, one-to-one guidance, steady progress

During the learning process, the class leader provides help and guidance for the campers and answers their questions and doubts. Campers report their learning status once every two weeks. In order to ensure the quality of the report, the monitor will check the report materials and contact classmates for further review of the materials before reporting. During the presentation, the teacher will have one-on-one communication and provide guidance in many aspects, including reporting logic, work route, PPT making, etc. After nearly three months of study, the students' scientific research quality has been significantly improved, with clearer objectives, clearer logic, more accurate expression and more beautiful PPT making.


Final assessment, award evaluation,

On September 2nd, the laboratory held the final defense of the summer camp for freshmen. The students made a comprehensive report on the work of the three months and showed the manuscripts of the final papers. The tutor made a summary of the work of the summer camp, and pointed out the shortcomings of everyone, and encouraged the students to further improve their work after the beginning of the semester. Each student is rated by the tutor according to their performance during the camp. Among them, Pan Yuhan, Lu Xinyue and Liu Luyao received excellent ratings for their outstanding performance. After that, the tutor awarded the students camp scholarships based on their ratings. In addition, the lab also gave each new student a summer camp gift pack.


In this summer camp, under the careful guidance of the monitor, the students conducted research on the subject they chose, and finished writing the Paper in the form of paper, Poster and Survey. Among them, the Paper of Yuhan Pan and Luyao Liu is relatively complete. After reviewing and revising within the group, they submitted their paper to the International Conference ICC in early November. Other students continue to improve their work during the summer camp in the spirit of excellence.


The summer camp activity is an innovation and attempt of the laboratory. It aims to communicate the correct values of the laboratory with the students, deepen the understanding of the students, select excellent students with both virtue and ability through the discussion of the subject as the carrier, and enhance the students' sense of acquisition and belonging with the link of learning and reporting.
